Hi Guys, I'll be using a guitar extensively in Singapore where the humidity is about 90% daily. Not good for the glue joints and plates. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to keep the MC down to the 50-60% range without too complicated and expensive things like 24 hour a/c or dehumidifies? I'll keep the guitar in s calton/tkl until I play. Warmest Regards, Terence |

Hi Terence One simple way to do it is to use silica gel in comes in little pouches, a case dehumidifier would be useful keep in the case with the silica gel (Don't let them come into contact with the finish) and mointor the humidity to know how many to put in there. case dehumidifiers(aluminum boxes full of silica gel) are available on the internet and from folk like first quality music for around US$5.00. in singapore you will probably need two in a case. a case hygrometer is also handy so you know what is happening in there. radio shack sell the ones i use for about US$25.00 the silica gel is renewed by heating it in the oven on about 300 degrees F for 20-30 mins. another consequence of prolonged exposure to high humiidity is mold which can also attack the glue lines and doesn't smell too nice either. |

Terrance Are you going back to merry old England sometime soon? Have you decided to remain in the far East? I want you to see that little 00 sapele guitar, but it's in London. (where I bet the humidity is not much lower) I also recommend silica gel. John |
